My HP Envy all-in-one no longer scans or copies. It will print just fine, but when I try to scan or copy anything I get a black page of lines. I included a screen shot.
The printer hasn't been moved, so nothing could have physically damaged it. This was happening prior to downloading the new OS on my macbook. When I did update, I unistalled and reinstalled the printer software, but am still having the same issue.

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂
I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.
As I understand there is a problem with the copying and scanning.
Do not worry, I will be glad to assist you with this issue.
Resetting the printer can force some types of scanners to calibrate which might fix the problem.
-
Remove any items from the scanner glass and automatic document feeder (ADF), then close the scanner lid.
-
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer and from the wall outlet or power strip.
-
Wait at least 60 seconds.
-
Plug the power cord back into a wall outlet.
-
Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
-
If you have an HP DeskJet 3700 series printer, calibrate the scanner after resetting the printer.
-
Load the original document or photo, then try to copy.
If the issue persists, click continue for the next step.

From the "hp envy 5530 won't copy or scan" (https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Scanning-Faxing-and-Copying/hp-envy-5530-won-t-copy-or-scan/m-p/637707...) thread in the HP Support Forum is this very helpful reply that readers of this thread should be made aware of:

>I've also encountered a 5530 that will not copy or scan. I went through everything that HP recommends without any >success then stumbled on an answer at https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/397196/Why+are+the+copy-scan+functions+not+working. The individual, obviously at wits end, simply lifted up the right side of the printer and >dropped it. I did the same and low and behold it now works fine. I do occasionally have a hiccup, in that it again stops >scanning/copying so I just power down, repeat dropping it, power up and then it is fine, often for several months.
There is another reply stating that they tried this gambit and that it worked for them as well. I was a bit incredulous about this solution but thought it made more sense than the hammer solution I was contemplating and tried it--it actually resolved the problem for me, too. I disconnected the power to the printer, raised just the right side of the printer about four inches (not feet--although I understand how tempting that might be to some frustrated by this problem!) above the desk and dropped it. I then restored power to the printer, and the copy function started working perfectly. Hard to believe, perhaps, but this solution does appear to work.
