If you want to press a button on the printer and have the scan sent to a PC or emailed to someone then those features need to be in the printer. You will need to look a the manual and / or follow the procedure on the control panel of the printer.
It is a lot easier to use a PC or smartphone to request a scan using HP Smart or HP Scan and have it immediately returned to the PC or smartphone.
Install HP Smart using the Microsoft or Apple store or Google play.
Please provide the exact model name of the printer for better assistance as I may be able to find videos to show how to connect or fix the problem. A printer can be a PRO or a PLUS or have the letter 'e' after the number and that can make a big difference. Some printers with the same number ID could be a LaserJet, Deskjet, or Officejet.
