HP Envy 5540
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have been trying to scan a document.  The best that I can get is Windows Fax and Scan via a complicated path.  I used to be able to click on a desktop icon and initiate a scan. Now even even initiating a scan via the touch screen on the Envy 5540 only gets me a Windows Fax and Scan screen and I only seem to be able to scan one page at a time.

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.

Can you download and install the FULL feature printer software from HP for your operating system:

The following resource will help you :
https://support.hp.com/sg-en/drivers

Key in your printer model, Operating System and download & install the FULL feature software.

Once you have downloaded and installed the FULL feature software, you will be able to print and scan.

For scanning tips, click here.

Hope that helps.

Please give more specific instructions regarding what to do once .exe file is downloaded. I have been given 4 options and am not sure which one to choose. Choices are 1. connect a new device, 2. connect a USB connected device to a network connection, 3.reconfigure wireless settings, 4.add more software.

I'm sure it's not number 1, but am not sure which of the other three are more likely to solve my problem.

HI,

Connect a new device would be the correct option since the FULL feature software is not installed before.

This relevant resource will show how how a typical FULL feature software install is done:

Hope that helps!

I successfully downloaded the software thanks to your advice and tutorial link, but when I push the scan icon on my HP Envy it still takes me to the same crummy Windows fax and scan.  It took me a while to figure out, but it looks like I need to go to the desktop icon for my pinter and click on it.  The difference is that now when I click on it I get an option to scan and can choose scan settings once I click that option.  That option and those choices were present at one time, but seem to have disappeared for some reason.  I am glad to have those settings restored.  Thanks for your help!

Is there any way to get the printer itself to look for the HP scan software when I press the scan button on the printer itself?

Hi,

In order to scan from the front panel, please enable "Scan to computer" from the HP Printer Assistant > Manage Scan to Computer

Thanks.
