HP Officejet 8610

Exact same problem as https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Scanning-Faxing-and-Copying/Scan-to-Network-Synology-NAS-Folder/td-p/5... but the answer didn`t help me.

Created a new share "scanner", created a new user "scanner" on the synology nas.

Connected from my computer to "\\NAS\scanner" with the "scanner" credentials, it all works fine.

Connecting from my HP with the same setting, results in "Incorrect username/password".

Tried changing advanced settings in Synology so it only supports SMB1, supporting the entire range, changing username to NAS\scanner nothing works.

A few Ideas... Try / Consider / Ignore

:Arrow_Right:  Preparation and Notes

  • Alway use the IP address in place of the "NAS" (name of server) when mapping the NAS to the computer.  Depending on your network, this may actually be necessary.  Small detail, at least try it.
  • Set a static IP Address for the NAS - and tell your router about that detail.
  • Set a static IP address for the computer(s), too - nice and neat.
  • Set a static IP address on your printer / scanner / device used to manage the prints / scans
  • Make sure all this stuff is on the same Subnet.   Double check.
  • If you are really in trouble, then during the testing phase, switch off other devices that inhabit your network:  TV, phone(s), tablets, game systems...
  • After you check / set everything, then Restart Everything, including the router.

On the NAS

  • If the NAS firmware needs to be updated, do that.

NOTE: If the NAS no longer supports new firmware (NAS is old), chances are that you are fighting an uphill battle.  NAS units that are no longer supported tend to die slow death as other devices and the network changes around it.

Commentary (Comments that include opinion and no factual data)

If the NAS is not only old but is slow as well, then it is possible that nothing will work as expected.  Again, as the network and the other devices on that network change, communication can break down.  For example, "everything" is right but perhaps the data exchange is so slow that either NAS or windows thinks the share is wrong, the username is wrong, the login is wrong... After beating up both the NAS and the windows and the network, the underlying cause could be the data exchange rate.  If you know how to test your device and network speed, do that.  (Had one of these situations a few years back and finally retired the old NAS.)

  • Verify the "shared" status of the folder / volumne (depending on level of "share") by removing the share property, waiting a bit (however long the process requires, plus two minutes), and then setting the source back to "Shared".  Watch out / verify group access points.  Groups can "bite".

  • Double check each of the accounts (on the NAS) that you expect to have access to the NAS share.   If necessary, check the profile access information of each account - does it have full access to the Shared folder?  If the account in the right group?  If you really want a "clean" start, edit the profile information to remove and then add the account back into the group that has full read/write access to the shared data folder.  Change / Update the password on at least one account and use that account as your test subject on both sides (NAS / Windows / Mapping).

On Windows

  • Lower the UAC (second tick from the bottom) on the Windows side.

  • If you have not done so, switch on Network Discovery

Control Panel > icon view > Network and Sharing Center > Advanced sharing settings

Under Private (current profile) -----------------------------------

CHECK Turn on network discovery

CHECK Turn on file and printer sharing

Save Changes to save edits and exit

  • Disconnect, wait, and then map the NAS (using the IP) back onto the Windows machine.
  • If the current account (that you are logged into in Windows) is not the account that owns / controls / manages / accesses data on the NAS, use the "Connect using different credentials"; map the drive naming an account  login  that matches an account login on the NAS.

Example

Map_Network_Drive_2AMap_Network_Drive_2A
