This is definitely a new problem as I never had the grey background before when using the scan to e-mail function!

We shouldn't have to resort to what HeaStew is suggesting but if it works (temporarily) ....

On my Mac, when I installed the printer, it automatically puts an app on your computer. Go to that page and look for the HP app. You can scan that way, multiple copies. It’s super easy and never a grey background.

While the worksarounds people have posted are appreciated, none of them offer the same functionality as scan to e-mail. One of the most important features of scan to e-mail is that we should be able to use it without having access to a PC.

 

HP, this is a clear problem that many people are experiencing. Please give us an update on any fixes underway or at least an acknowledgement that this is a problem on your end.

Unfortunately the scan to email option gives you a gray background on the document.  The only way to avoid that result is to initiate the scan using the HP app on your computer.  That workaround is fine as long as I remember to have my laptop with me when I initiate a scan, but there have been several occasions where I forgot to bring my laptop with me and then I have to go back to my office and initiate the scan and then go back to the computer to retrieve the document.  

 

HP really needs to fix this anomaly.  I like everything else about the printer, but this anomaly will not make it possible for me to recommend the product to others who ask about the 8025.  Fix it and that will change.

For the record: I have the very same problem on a different printer, the MFP M479dw. This does make it likely that it might be a shared cloud service they're using to generate the PDF, as an HP employee mentioned.

This worked for me but it is frustrating that one has to use the desktop icon to scan and not be able to scan using the panel on the printer.  HP you need to fix this!

I am not sure what was updated, but I am now able to Scan to Email without a grey background...Tried today on several documents (not pictures) and it worked fine.   I am guessing a firmware update was applied?   Hope most of you that were on this thread have the same result!
