Thanks Shlomi.  I have an HP Envy 110 and I thought my goose was cooked when I upgraded my laptop to Mojave.  Thanks to your post, I'm back in business!  May good fortune be your companion 🙂

I have the same issue /error message since updating to Mojave where HP Scan does not work or cant find the printer. The scanner works correctly when scanning from the 8600  to mac but not in reverse and there's no way to control the scanner quality since HP SCAN does not work anymore. I deleted HP Scan the application as stated and uploaded the HP EASY START software update but this did not work and then I could not scan at all. I had reinstall HP SCAN using Time Machine since the software disk that came with the HP 8600 printer would not even load at this point (not compatible with the updated IOS).

If anyone knows how to update the scanner controls without HP Scan please share. It would be crazy to have to replace a perfectly good printer just because HP did not provide updated compatible software. thx much

Hi Dannyone11,

Thanks to Shlomi, we have the answer!  I do not know how to link to his post in this one, so I;ve just copied and pasted his post below.  His advice got my HP Envy printer/scanner running on Mac Mojave.  The new program does not have all the bells and whistles that the old HP Scan program did, but it works and I can continue to use my nice HP printer/scanner on Mojave.  Here is Shlomi's post.  Happy Holidays!  -- Jim

From your Applications folder or its HP sub-folder delete any existing HP Scan or HP Easy Scan application, delete it by moving it to trash, then empty the trash.

Next, install the latest HP Easy Scan below, it will be installed within the Applications folder:
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Installations/Essentials/hp-easy-scan-1_...

If you experience any further issues, ensure the latest software is installed by following HP Easy Start below:
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Applications/HP_Easy_Start.app.zip

Finally, ensure your drivers are up to date by clicking the Apple icon, select About this Mac and then press Software Update.
Click Store on the top menu bar, click Reload Page, click Update All if any updated are available.

I had the same problem with my family's two late 2012 Mac minis running macOS Mojave 10.14.2.  After downloading, extracting and running the HP_Easy_Start_app, it was now able to connect to our HP OfficeJet Pro 8730's scanning capability from both HP Easy Scan and Image Capture.

Trying to scan from an Officejet 6500A Pro E710n.  This has worked the last 3 years.  Recently upgraded to Mojave OS.  After downloading from the provided link and installing the Easy Scan app on Mojave OS, it is unable to launch (closes as soon as it opens with no error message).  Redid a number of times.  Then ran the Easy Start utility uaing the provided link, and when it got to the test of the scan function, it worked fine.  Then tried Easy Scan with it failing as it did before.  Went to Apples website and it shows that the printer model I have is not supported by HP on Mojave (although the E709 is supported).  **bleep**!! and if it isn't supported, why does it work with Easy Start?

Shlomi, none of this worked for me. I have an HP ENVY Photo 7155. I can scen from the touch screen on the pri ter, but not from HP Scan on the Mac. Running 10.14.2.

What next?

Didn't work for me either, but what did work is the following:

  • Go to the printer's web interface by typing the printer's IP address into your browser. You can get this from the printer's settings menu
  • Under Network settings select Network Protocols
  • Change from 'Enable both IPv4 and IPV6' to 'Enable IPV4 only'
  • Resart your printer
