Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

HP OfficeJet Pro 9025
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have been using the HP Scan and Capture software with my HP OfficeJet Pro 9025 all-in-one for the last 3 years.   Suddenly today, HP Scan and Capture is throwing a Device Not found message for my HP OfficeJet Pro 9025.   I can print to the device from my computer without any issue.   On the printers console, it is saying that I have to download and install HP Smart from Http:///123.hp.com.   I did this; however, the software requires I either log in or create an account to use the scanning software...   I don't ever and will never be scanning to a cloud repository.   I want to know how to use MY HP OfficeJet Pro 9025 scanner while on the network or off the network without having to sign in to an HP Cloud instance.   As a software engineer, I find this under handed and an invasion of my privacy and rights to use MY printer without an umbilical cord tied to HP

I have an Office Jet Pro 6978 and the scan software suddenly stopped working.

You could try restarting everything - including the router.

What else?

The two subjects - HP Scan and Capture application and the HP Smart application - are not related.

HP Scan and Capture does not require that you sign into your HP Account.

HP Smart is a separate application - using it is not mandatory and HP Smart is not needed to use HP Scan and Capture.

HP Scan and Capture

Microsoft Store (formally Windows Store) - Requires Windows 8 or higher

Download-Save-Install   HP Scan and Capture

Click Start (windows key) > Open the All Apps List > scroll the list

Open Category HP

Find and open the HP Scan and Capture application

Optional

Right-Click on the application and PIN to Start

HP Scan and Capture does require the printer be available - for example, connected to your network along with your other devices.

HP Scan and Capture is an application - it can be removed (uninstalled) and then a new copy of the application can be installed from the Microsoft Store.

Printer Software

The Full Feature Software (full driver) is available at the printer's Software and Drivers support website for your Operating System and version.  Windows is separately listed from MacOS.  Select (on the page) to change the OS and version.

For example, for Windows 10

The full driver download package is available in sub-category Software-Utility

Full Driver does not require that you sign in using your HP Account.

Method - Use the Easy Start Wrapper to Install the Full Feature / Full Driver Software

For printers that support the option,

Use the Easy Start wrapper to install and configure the printer software.

  • Home Page - HP Easy Start
  • Open Category Software and Drivers
  • Topic: Software-Utility
  • Download-and-Save  the current version of the Easy Start wrapper to install your print software
  • If using USB:  Disconnect the USB cable between the printer and computer before installing the software.
  • Right-Click on the downloaded package and "Run as Administrator" to start the installation
  • Select to install the “Full Driver” / “Full Feature Software”
  • If using USB:  Connect the cable when instructed to do so (near the end of the installation process).
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in.

Notes >> Easy Start... The Journey

  1. About 2/3 of the way through the setup, you will be given the opportunity to select the software - select the "Full Driver" set (as opposed to the basic driver or other application).

  1. You can skip / ignore suggestion(s) that you add the HP Account – you’ll need the account at some point, for now, you can skip this suggestion (as many times as it insists it’s a good idea) during the full driver software installation.

  1. If you see it, you can skip / ignore suggestion(s) regarding Instant Ink subscription.  Instant Ink subscription is NOT mandatory.

  1. Full driver provides print and scan functions supported by your printer.
