Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

I see JurgenPeter in February posted the very same highly frustrating issue:

I've been using HP Smart for several years. I use it to scan stuff.  Why is it trying to force me to setup a new "account"?. This used to just work. I just want it to work like it did up until just a few minutes ago. Why do I have to go through this ? "

I need to scan for my work--it prints just fine--but I can't get past this to scan as usual.

One of the suggestions was to uninstall and reinstall--I did--same issue.  I think I had an issue a few months ago--doing this did correct--but not this time.

I also do not want the cloud.

As it has for about 2 years now--I just want to be able to scan pages to my computer--so I can complete my job requirements!!  This is why I bought this printer/scanner--I certainly would NOT have if I couldn't just use it!!

Hi @cjgc

Thanks for using the HP Support Community.

Here's some options that does not require an account to scan:

1. use the HP FULL software (for WIn 10)

2. Use 3rd part Vuescan

3. Use Mopria Scan (for Android)

Download Mopria scan from the Play Store.

Hope that helps!

Thank-you for your efforts--I figured out I just needed to create a login for HP (same as to access this)--

FYI--for us non technical folks--it is all so confusing--and appreciate your info--but WAY too confusing for me.

Still can't understand how it can work simply for years and all of a sudden there are these changes?
