Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

Hi Everyone.

Finally my HP smart is working Properly, I just Disabled the Orientation in Auto Enhancement settings. I hope it helps.HP.jpg

Thank you so much ERIK2020, this has worked for me too by turning off the orientation detection.
Now I can rotate and crop and it saves, at last!! Wahey!

Thanks Erik! Seems to work!

Though it is a workaround for a bug for which HP is delaying a fix. And to which I hope they post a solution ASAP.

Thanks again!

Excellent.  Thank you ERIK2020!

One might think this could have been fixed by HP, instead of offering fatuous suggestions to users plagued by this problem.

Thank you Eric, it is very sad that with the millions of printers that HP ship, all of which now use the same HP smart software, HP do not seem to have properly tested this software or to follow up on feedback.

I hope this thread gets to the right person to fix the issue because for everyone who comments on a thread like this there will be thousands who read it but never bother - your 'workaround' of disabling the auto-enhancements will be a great workaround and allow a lot of people to go back to using their scanner properly, but we need this fixed or rolled back.

HP - I am a software developer, the hardware is fine - the printer sends a perfectly good image to the PC, and if I use a different package instead of HP Smart to communicate with the printer, scanning is fine - The problem is with HP smart, and since the Smart software update several months before Christmas HP smart is no longer fit for purpose, the auto-enhancements addition overrides the manual editing so that it cannot be used.

 - If you just put a document on the scanner, scan it, and the auto-crop / auto-rotate etc. give you what you were expecting then all is fine and you can save / print do what you like with the document

 - But if the auto-crop / auto-rotate etc. DO NOT give you what you were expecting, and you then want to modify the document yourself before saving, NONE of those features work. It is as if the fact that the document has been 'auto-enhanced' sets something which disables subsequent manual changes.

As said at the start of this thread, when you click the edit button sometimes the document cannot be seen - if it can be seen, then moving the crop lines serves no purpose, when you click 'done' the document will be exactly as it was before you clicked the edit button. Similarly, if you try to rotate the document, nothing happens, or worse, it partially rotates but either crops the document (if you start with an  A4 document at 210x295mm, after 2 rotations you have a a cropped square document 210x210mm with a white section where the rest used to be). In some cases the image is pixellated or distorted during rotation.

When I first starting having these issues several months ago I searched the forums, but it was a new problem so there were no comments. Like many others I thought "this is such a fundamental issue, and so easy to reproduce, they will roll out a fix within a couple of days". I am amazed that months later we are still waiting.

I resolved this by going to the upper right corner and selecting Auto Enhancements then turn off Orientation>Rotate Images Right Side Up

iI just transfered to a new desktop and had a hard time installing my HP8610. I finally got it done. The old printer software does not run and it acts like the printer is not installed. The HP Smart software runs and scans. When I try to edit a scan, it either loses the edit when I press "DONE" and goes back to the original unedited scan or shows a scan with half the image covered by a colored smear. This is very frustrating.
