HP6210 will not scan. Print doctor sends me into an endless loop and will not diagnose problem

HP6210 will print but not scan or copy.  Attempts to download and run HP Print Doctor have failed on this Windows 10 computer.  Print Doctor sends me into an endless loop without acknowledging or diagnosing the problem.

Product introduced (perhaps) mid 2004

There is not any printer software for this older printer.

Instead you are directed to install the built-in Windows drivers.

HP printer setup (Windows built-in driver)

Built-in Windows drivers do not include Scan.

You could try Paint. 

Will that work?

Paint (mspaint)

Older software – not brilliant – does work for scanning images.                                                        

• Open  Paint
• Optional >> Expand the “white background” area to a size to accommodate your data.  If unknown, try 1300x1300
• File > Select “From Scanner or Camera”
• Select your printer > Follow the prompts to scan and then save your item

What else?

You might be able to use a third-party Scan software.  ?

If you can find no other options, this company specializes in Scan software for unsupported printers.

What about the Doctor??

Short answer: 

Doctor does not work with this printer or any similarly aged printer.

Comments:

The Doctor cannot deal with the situation:  The doctor does not always have the proper "exit code" for missing software.

The program spins because it cannot find a way "out" of where it ended up when it ran out of "if this is true, do that" options.

This is not an excuse - it is just a way of describing what might be happening.
