First time on the this forum. . .so be gentle. Apologies if there is a better place to pose this question.
I have a HP7740 printer/scanner. It has a legal size sheet feeder and Tabloid (11x17) scanning glass.
So - - - about the scanning software. I am working in a Win10 environment.
I see references to "HP print assistant"; but I can't find a place to download it?
I seem to be directed to the HP Smart App.
The HP Smart app itself seems to work. . . . .BUT for a simple scan; it seems to want a log-in to a webservice. WHY? I need a reliable alternative that does not require web access. Simple security concern.
SO. . .I have also found a program called "HP Scan and Capture". . . supposedly from HP. This issue is that this program will only scan Legal Size when you select "entire Glass". The issue is that this is a Tabloid (11x17") scanner. The "Scan" function of the "HP Smart App" will scan Tabloid without fuss.
This problem seems to be shared by other applications that seem to use a twain interface (i.e faststone and Adobe Acrobat).
Frankly. . .. I don't need a fancy program; I can import documents into fancy programs to do fancy things. All I am looking for is the ability to scan 11x17 documents. Basically, the "Scan" function of "HP Smart"; without the internet connection.
Thoughts?
Help?
Edit: I just found this thread: Solved: HP smart requiring sign in - HP Support Community - 7817547
The question appears to be "Why do I now have to LogIn to use a local scanner?"
The answer appears to be a politely worded "Suck it up Cupcake 🙂 "
I would submit that while it may be the answer; I find the answer to be unacceptable from a Cyber and Privacy perspective. I really do need a way to scan 11x17" locally without internet contact. I am perfectly fine purchasing a more consumer friendly solution.

Hey -
- Thanks for the quick feedback.
I had tried HP Scan and Capture with no luck earlier today. . . .but when I went through the Easy Start after reading your post, it sure "looked like" I had a new set of drivers installed (I thought I had the latest. . .apparently not)
With the new TWAIN driver, it seems to REALLY want to default to a 8.5" width; but "entire glass" setting does seem to work. . .although it looks like the resulting images have an 11.69" as opposed to a 11" width. I am not finding an 11x17 preset. Well, there IS an 11x17 preset in the twain driver, but it produces an 8.5x17 image.
I need to actually get something done now; so I will fool with this later.
Thanks for the help.
