Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.
HP Recommended
ENVY 5055
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Initially, my scanner recognized my THUNDERBIRD email client
and I could directly scan a PDF or JPEG to an email in THUNDERBIRD

Suddenly,  it says it can't find my email client.   How do I rectify this?

@looppool Let's try these steps to resolve the issue:

1. Load the original print side down on the right front corner of the scanner glass.

2. Touch Scan and then touch Email.

3. On the control panel display, select the account that you want to use, and touch Continue.

This should help you in setting up your Thunderbird email as default.

Thanks for that advice!
I appreciate you taking the time to reply.

I have one problem following your advice:
Every time, I press scan on the unit itself,  it says
that the correct software is not installed and I should go to the URL to download and install.

The thing is,  I already have and it IS installed on my computer.

I have even meticulously installed,  uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times and can't get the machine
itself to recognize that the software is actually already installed (and working)  on my
the compute and already are scanning successfully.

The software on the Computer , itself, won't recognize my e-mail client.
Weirdly,  it worked on one re-install but then stopped recognizing the e-mail client.

So, I have the Scanning software installed on my i7, Win 7 Ultimate, loads of RAM, USB 3.0
64 bit machine and I can have it scan any document through the wirless network.

I just can't scan from the ENVY 5055 itself.

Would you know of a workaround to get the ENVY 5055 itself to work when I press Scan.

@looppool The only way around this is to enable scan to computer, and then setup scan to email again, if you are not getting the option to enable stc, I suggest you perform a clean uninstallation and reinstall of the drivers  using the below steps and then, you can set up scan to email from the sw or ews page.

Press "Windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window.

Type "services.msc" to get Services - Go to "Print spooler" - Right-click and "Stop" the service.

Now again open "Run" - Type "spool" and ok - Go to PRINTERS folder - delete everything in that folder.

Go to services again - Start the print spooler.

Now check for issue resolution.

If the issue persists, unplug the USB cable from the printer (if present).

Go to Control panel - Programs and feature - Select all the HP printer entries and uninstall them.

Now go to Control panel - Devices and printer - Select all the printer entries and remove the device.

Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.

Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.

Again, go to the Run window, type - "c:/programdata" - Go to the Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

Restart your computer.

Then, use this link to access the HP website, find the drivers compatible with your windows and install it: Click here

Thanks so much.

I did everything you suggested (and from now on, know how to deeply uninstall the HP Printer software
or upgrade with firmware or drives) so it was useful in that regard.

Unfortunately,   after restarting and reinstalling all the drivers  I turned on the
software on my desktop and choose "PRINT JPEG to EMAIL.   This dialogue box comes
up:
The HP Scan application cannot find an email application
installed on the computer.  Please ensure email
application is installed and properly configured. Note:
Internet-based email accounts are not supported.

The software works and allows me to scan to JPEGS and PDFs and I can send them to my computer.
My email client (not web based) Mozilla Thunderbird is up and running well on the computer so
it is configured accurately.

So,  I'm stumped.
I thank you for your time and truly wish I could choose 'problem solved'.

@looppool No worries, let's get this sorted, here's what I need you to do:

When adding your email account to the scan to email feature on the printer control panel, the email server blocks access to your email account and one of the following error messages might display:

  • Gmail requires an additional security step. Please check your email security settings online.

  • The email or password that was entered is not working. Please try again.

  • The SMTP server uses an authentication method that is not supported. Try a different server.

  • Authentication failure SMTP: SMTP server does not support authentication.

  • Cannot resolve the SMTP server. Check the SMTP and DNS server settings with your system administrator or Internet Service Provider.

Some email account service providers, such as Google or Yahoo, block access by third-party apps for security reasons. To allow the scan to email feature access to your email account, go to your email account service provider for detailed steps.

NOTE:

If you turned on two-step authentication, you must create an application password for the scan to email feature to access to your email account. See your email account provider for more information.

  • Gmail: Go to Allowing less secure apps to access your account (in English), and then follow the on-screen instructions.

  • Yahoo: Go to Ways to securely access Yahoo Mail (in English), and then follow the on-screen instructions.

  • Other email accounts: From a trusted device, sign in to your email account. Go to your account settings, search for authentication, SMTP, or security, and then follow the on-screen instructions to set-up access for the scan to email feature.

Let me know if that works.

Thanks so much for getting right back to me.
I have a very heavy schedule of teaching RHYTHM to melodic instrumentalist
(students in Slovakia, Germany, Japan, Mexico and all over the states, I'm proud
to say) in the next four days so I'll get back to this as soon as I can.

One thing is that when I go to the ENVY itself:  no matter what I do, if I
press scan it says that it does not find my software installed on my PC,
even though the wireless is hooked up,  the software has been installed,
uninstalled correctly several times and IS WORKING.    I push scan on
the computer and the ENVY scans and I can save it.  I just can send it to e-mail.

So there's a definite disconnect.

And....I'll look into checking out my Mozilla Thunderbird client to make sure
that it's set up correctly.

Weirdly, at one point,   this worked .   Then other stuff failed and I was forced to
re-install again and it has not worked since.

The program on the PC says everything is installed correctly and everything is
up to date, including drivers and firmware.

Thanks for all the time, brother............hopefully, this will do the trick.

Even if it doesn't I'd love to write a letter praising you to your Employers
for being so kind to me.      Let me know how I can do that.

Cheers!   warmly, Rick
