HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 All-in-One Printer series
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, I am scanning multiple pages (about 15 pages) that once scanned are too big to upload to the government site that I am using.  Maximum size is 4MB.  What resolution and compression should I use to try to reach this desired size?  They always seem to be too big!  Thanks, Loretta

@LorettaP

Just ran few tests on my loan HP Officejet Pro 8730 (a sister of your printer) to scan 18 pages A4 (Word document, mainly text, some in colors):

(a) Using default from printer (200dpi, 24bit color) the file is over 5MB,

(b) Using my setup with 100dpi, 8bit color the file size is only 2MB, the PDF file is ok to read on normal computer sreen and print.

My suggestion you can use 100dpi (no option for 150dpi) with 24bit color, the file should be under 4MB. To do that please

(a) Open Printer Assistant (double click printer icon on desktop),

(b) Select Scan a Document or Photo,

(c) Select Document/Save as PDF,

(d) Click More (top right of its Menu),

(e) Select 100dpi,

(f) Click Scan

Regards.

Lowering the resolution to what you state for a crap image that is still 2 MB is ABSURD! Come on man! Adobe gives us full color high quality PDF's at a much smaller size! The problem is lack of compression not resolution! Compression settings SHOULD be standard in a business class machine! We scan 20-30 documents daily and in 6 months our server is full. More space than many years prior due to this stupid machine! We bought 2 8730's for our office for almost $800. Both are being re-purposed (trash can) because they do not have compression like the Fujustu Scan Snap. We should have bought the scan snaps in the first place. High quality (300+ DPI) at a micro fraction of the size of the the HP 87** since they have compression!
