I have two offices with different HP Printers; a Office jet pro 6970 PCL3 and a Office jet pro 8620. When I scan docs with the 6970 they scan without the vertical line in the copy. When I scan docs with the 8620 I always get the vertical line. How can I eliminate the vertical line?? Thanks

There is likely a tiny spec of "something" on the printer glass where the image is scanned. It doesn't have to be much - the tiniest bit of dirt or other debris can cause this sort issue.
If the printer has a separate ADF glass, it is the long rectangular piece to the left of the larger flatbed glass.
Use a flashlight (torch in the UK); shine the light at an angle along the glass.
Clean, clean, clean.
Use a tiny brush to sweep all along the edges of the glass.
