my HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 is not scanning to PDF where it has never been a problem in the past it scans to Microsoft Word instead, but you can’t even read it if it’s in word it’s just mumble jumbo. to scan anything I have to use the JPEG option

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Check HP Scan Software Settings
- Open HP Scan on your computer.
- Select "Scan to PDF" as the file type.
- If PDF is not an option, reinstall the HP Smart or HP Scan software.
Use HP Smart App
- Download HP Smart from the HP website or Microsoft Store.
- Select Scan > Save as PDF and try scanning again.
Reinstall Printer Drivers
- Uninstall the printer from Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Download and install the latest drivers from HP Support.
Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer and unplug it for 2-3 minutes.
- Plug it back in and restart.
Use Windows Fax & Scan (Alternative)
- Open Windows Fax & Scan (built-in on Windows).
- Click New Scan, select PDF, and scan your document.
