I have an HP LaserJet M234sdwe printer/scanner, I've been able to scan previously but today can't scan today. I've rebooted, unplugged printer and laptop.

Hi @ajpbelle,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP LaserJet M234sdwe was scanning fine before, but now it won’t scan even after rebooting and unplugging devices. Let’s go through steps to fix this.

Check Connection Type

Confirm whether your printer is connected via Wi-Fi, USB, or Ethernet.

Ensure your laptop and printer are on the same network if using Wi-Fi.

Update HP Software / Drivers

Open HP Smart or visit HP LaserJet M234sdwe Drivers.

Make sure the latest full feature driver and software is installed for your operating system.

Check Scanner Status

Open HP Smart app → Scan → Scanner Settings.

Ensure the printer is detected and selected as the active scanner.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows Only)

Download from HP Print and Scan Doctor.

Run the tool to detect and repair any scanner communication issues.

Restart the Print Spooler

Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.

Locate Print Spooler → Right-click → Restart.

This can clear stuck jobs preventing scanning.

Firewall / Antivirus Check

Temporarily disable any firewall or antivirus software that could block scanning over the network.

Test scanning again.

Test USB Scanning (Optional)

If Wi-Fi scanning fails, connect the printer via USB and try scanning.

This helps determine if the issue is network-related.

Reset the Printer (if needed)

On the printer, go to Settings → Printer Maintenance → Restore Factory Defaults.

Reconnect to Wi-Fi and test scanning again.

I hope this helps.
