Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the scanning issue. 

 

To better assist you - 

 

1) May I have the exact model name of the product? Refer to this document for steps to find the product details. Do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc.

 

2) What's the Mac OS version installed? From the Apple menu  in the corner of your screen, choose About This Mac. You'll see the macOS name, such as macOS Mojave, followed by its version number.

 

While you respond to that, you may refer to this document for steps to scan -  HP Printers - How to Scan (Mac)
