Ideas
If using Wireless connection, switch to Ethernet.
Ports | 1 USB 2.0; 1 Ethernet; 1 Wireless 802.11a/b/g/n; 1 RJ-11 Fax |
Wireless capability | Yes, built-in WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n |
What?
Scanning is resource intensive.
There's more to it than that, but essentially, Ethernet is more stable in a resource starved environment.
and
Assign the printer its own manual / static IP address
Can't stand it?
Must -- or want to -- use Wireless
Make sure the printer is located where the signal is strong and stable.
If your router supports it, check / change the channel.
Consider:
In general,
- 2.4GHz is less fussy about obstacles and supports a longer distance (separation) between router and device (printer)
- 5GHz is faster
Reduce outside distractions
Make sure the network and the computer processing the job are not swamped with other devices / tasks.
What else?
The printer memory is limited -- the more dense the scan content and the more pages added means that is more for the printer to manage during the job process.
Memory | 256 MB |
Maximum Memory | 256 MB DDR3 SDRAM |
Pieces
Break up the job -- Use "Combine" software to put the PDF document back together.
App / Software
Use different app or software to scan the content.
This might help if the app / software is the source of the failure.
Windows
For example, if you are using HP Smart, install and use the HP Scan software.

The installation of the full driver generally adds at least one, possibly two shortcuts to the Desktop.
