The printer does not support scanning slides or negatives because slides and negatives need to be backlit.
That said, you can build a simple device that provides the back lighting.

I saw a solution with a HP PhotoSmart and hoped it could also be done with my HP DESKJET.
I read the article, but it’s a bit too ‘sophisticated’ for me. I think, I will go to a shop where they will do it for me.

Good Idea...
Were it me, and I could find an actual photo processing store (these seem to be more rare these days in the US), I would take my slides to have them processed. If nothing else, having them processed is faster and the results will likely be better.
