I was using HP scan. Scanned 8 images on 1200 but when I started on 9th, the program worked for some time and then told me it can't connect to the scanner.
I rebooted the scanner, I rebooted the computer. I reinstalled the MFP's drivers several times. I installed HP Smart and tried scanning with it. Same result.
Somewhere along that process I installed the Print and Scan Doctor, but it wouldn't open because it wants me to run it as administrator. I do run it as administrator, but i doesn't believe me.
Then HP Smart also downloaded a Doctor app and it wanted to print a test page. I skipped that and the app said ok, no more problems here, go ask at the forum.
So here I am.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Let's try to do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:
Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.
1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'
6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
13.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo
14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
15.) Restart the computer.
Once done, please download and install the software from here:

So, I uninstalled everything I could find, including following all the HP icons on my desktop to the file locations and deleting those files, cleaned the registry with CCleaner, rebooted the computer and went to the driver download page. I specifically didn't want to download HP Smart because I don't like its interface, so I went for HP LaserJet Pro MFP M130a/132a and Ultra MFP M134a Full Feature Software and Drivers.
I installed it, and tried scanning again and ran into the same issue.
So I went back and repeated all of the uninstall process and then installed HP Smart. And I still have the same issue.
Yesterday a friend told me that there's a combination of buttons to press on the controld panel of the MFP itself which resets it to default state or something like that. Using it, I was able to scan another 10 pages, each time preinting a configuration report in between, or a test page, or an error report. But now it is stuck again, and no matter how many times I press the combination on the control panel, the scanner still gives me an error at the end of the scanning prodess.

I tried to scan with Photoshop. It gives a more detailed account of scanning stages.
First it said Preparing for scanning, and that went fine, But then...
By the way, I tried all of this on another computer, and the result is exactly the same.

Are you able to copy well from the Printer?
Try a firmware update: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_1776648-1643972-16

Yes, I'm able to copy and scan on 600. But not on 1200, which is what I need. I have tried the firmware update already. I'll try again in case it was a different one.
I'll be away for a week so please don't close this topic ifI don't reply, I'll need to fix the MFP when I get back.

I'm not sure what NVRAM reset is. I did the thing when you press 2 buttons on the printer control panel and keep pressing them while you turn it on, and it does some rustling and flashing lights for a minute. I understood it was supposed to clear its memory. It helped me to scan another 10 pages, but then that stopped working either.

Let me send you steps for a NVRAM reset in private.
