Hi @RichyLFC
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It sounds like your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw is producing black lines when scanning or copying, which is often caused by debris or smudges on the scanner glass or document feeder. Here’s how you can troubleshoot and resolve this issue:
1. Clean the Scanner Glass
- Open the scanner lid and inspect the glass for smudges, dust, or debris.
- Use a lint-free cloth and distilled water to gently clean the glass. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or alcohol.
- Pay special attention to the narrow strip of glass near the document feeder, as this is often the source of black lines.
2. Inspect the Document Feeder
- If you’re using the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), check for dirt or debris on the rollers and the glass strip underneath the feeder.
- Clean the rollers with a damp cloth and ensure there’s no paper residue.
3. Perform a Test Scan
- After cleaning, scan or copy a blank sheet of paper to check if the black lines are gone.
- If the issue persists, try scanning using the flatbed scanner instead of the ADF to isolate the problem.
4. Update Printer Firmware
- Outdated firmware can sometimes cause scanning or copying issues. Visit the HP Support w
Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Supportebsite to download and install the latest firmware for your printer.
5. Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for 2-3 minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on. This can clear temporary glitches.
6. Check for Hardware Damage
- If cleaning doesn’t resolve the issue, inspect the scanner glass and ADF components for scratches or damage.
- If you notice any physical damage, you may need to contact HP Support for repair options.
