Hi @Aljaha

Welcome to the HP Support Community. Thanks for bringing this to our notice.

I see that you are facing issues with your printer. Do not worry, we are here to fix it.

May I know from when are you facing this issue?

Did you make any hardware or software-related changes to it?

Could you please use an HP scan and capture the issue? Once done, please share it here so that I can assist you further.

Keep me posted.

Thanks!

Sorry for the delay in replying but I wanted to try one more thing and needed a number of hours to do this.

It looks as if I have now sorted it.

On getting the Microsoft update, although the printer worked I had an error message "Unable to communicate with scanner", I then uninstalled the update  but got another error message "The HP Envy 4520 series was not found". I uninstalled the Basic Device Software and reinstalled it and this worked. In the meantime I downloaded this software on to a W10 netbook and the scanning worked.

As this was downloaded after the Microsoft update on the netbook, this morning I uninstalled the HP software,  downloaded the update and reloaded the Basic Device Software and this has put everything back to normal.

I am responsible for probably 20 scanners in our practice and most have given us the same exact error after Friday's update. Simply uninstalling the scanner software & reinstalling fixed the issue every time for us.

Our devices are different but it's the exact same scenario

fixed with the KB5016616 update released August 9, according to Microsoft:

Resolution: This issue was resolved in updates released August 9, 2022 ( KB5016616) and later. We recommend you install the latest security update for your device.

the HP support team wrote about the usb printing problems here:

I think the HP support team needs to update that article to mention a fix from Microsoft (KB5016616)
