Hi, I want to place multiple photo on the scanner glass and have them separate into individual files. I have read some old posts and the answers are ambiguous. I have an HP Envy Photo 7800 All-In -One. Older HP software had this ability, if it is no longer available, why not? Newer software should be an improvement and taking this feature away is a step backwards!
Thank you! Jim

Hi @Jimrc7,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
You're absolutely right—older HP scanning software, such as HP Solution Center and even some versions of HP Easy Scan, used to have the ability to detect multiple photos on the scanner glass and automatically save them as separate files. Unfortunately, HP Smart, which is the current default scanning software for HP printers, does not have this feature.
Workarounds to Scan Multiple Photos as Separate Files:
Use Windows Fax and Scan
- Open Windows Fax and Scan (press Windows + S, type it in, and open it).
- Click New Scan and select your HP Envy 7858.
- Place multiple photos on the scanner and scan.
- Manually crop each photo after scanning.
Use HP Scan Extended (Older HP Software)
- HP Scan Extended was a separate utility that had multi-photo scanning. You may be able to download it from HP’s website, but it may not work on newer Windows versions.
Manual Cropping in HP Smart
- Scan all photos at once, then manually crop each photo and save them individually.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
