Please help. My OfficeJet 5740 wont copy all of a sudden. When I load the paper in the feeder to be copied and press copy, the next menu comes up asking color or black but no matter which I select to start the copy nothing happens. Its the same when I try using the scanner. It will not copy. I tired a hard reset, a soft reset, and I even inspected the paper feeders and the ink cartridges and the carriage but can find nothing and no reason for it to stop copying. It will print from my laptop but that is all. Thank you for reading.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

 

Connect the printer to a different wall outlet to determine if the original outlet is causing the issue.

 

Also, partially lift the scanner lid, and then press the Copy button or icon. If the scanner light does not illuminate or move across the glass, this could be a hardware issue.

Thank you for your help. I think you are right about it being a hardware issue. Nothing happens with the scanner no light no sound. My next question is how/where can I get it repaired? Perhaps an office Max near Albany, NY?

If the issue persists, please contact our HP Support team for Service Options as it could be a possible hardware issue:

1) Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Select your product type below.

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Select the appropriate option based on your preference.

6) Fill the web-form and proceed further.
