Hi @SF196285,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your scanner is not working on your desktop, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
1. Check Physical Connections::
- If your scanner is connected via USB, check that the cable is securely plugged into both the scanner and your computer.
- For network scanners, ensure they are properly connected to the network and that your computer can access the scanner over the network.
2. Verify Scanner Power and Settings:
- Turn off the scanner, wait for about 30 seconds, and then turn it back on. This can sometimes resolve minor connectivity issues.
- Ensure the scanner is set to the correct mode (e.g., flatbed, feeder) if applicable.
- Check any physical switches or buttons on the scanner for settings that might affect its operation.
3. Verify Scanner Installation and Drivers:
- Press Win + X and select "Device Manager".
- Look for any entries related to your scanner under "Imaging devices" or "Other devices". If you see a yellow exclamation mark, there may be a driver issue.
- Right-click on your scanner device and select "Update driver".
- Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software" to let Windows search for the latest drivers.
- Alternatively, visit the manufacturer's website to download and install the latest drivers for your scanner model.
4. Check Scanner Software:
- Ensure that the scanning software (e.g., HP Scan, Canon ScanGear, etc.) is installed and properly configured.
- If you're using third-party scanning software, check for updates or try reinstalling it.
5. Run Windows Troubleshooter:
- Open Settings (Win + I) > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
- Select "Printer" or "Hardware and Devices" troubleshooter and run it to detect and fix scanning issues.
6. Test with Built-in Windows Scan App:
- Type "Scan" in the search bar and select "Windows Scan".
- Try scanning a document using this built-in app to see if it works without errors.
7. Check for Windows Updates::
- Make sure your Windows operating system is up to date. Updates can include bug fixes and improvements that may resolve scanning issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
