Hi @Mary-Ann8,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
A yellow background on scanned documents can be caused by several factors. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and fix this issue.
Clean the Scanner Glass
- Dust, dirt, or smudges on the scanner glass can cause discoloration.
- Use a soft, lint-free cloth and a mild glass cleaner. Spray the cleaner onto the cloth, not directly onto the glass.
- Wipe the glass thoroughly, and make sure it's completely dry before using the scanner again.
Check the Document or Object Being Scanned
- Ensure the document or object you are scanning is clean and free of any stains or discoloration that might be causing the yellow background.
Update or Reinstall the Scanner Driver
- Outdated or corrupt drivers can cause scanning issues.
- Go to the HP support website and download the latest drivers for your printer model.
- Uninstall the current scanner driver from your computer and then install the new driver.
Adjust Scanner Settings
- Sometimes, scanner settings can cause issues. Open your scanning software and check the settings.
- Look for options such as color balance, brightness, and contrast. Adjust these settings to see if the issue is resolved.
Perform a Scanner Calibration
- Some HP printers allow you to calibrate the scanner.
- Check your printer’s manual for instructions on how to perform a scanner calibration.

Test with Another Computer or Device
- To rule out software issues, try scanning from another computer or device if possible.
- This can help determine if the issue is with the scanner itself or the software on your primary computer.
Reset the Printer
- A reset can sometimes fix scanning issues. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
Scan Using HP Smart App
- If you’re not already using it, try scanning with the HP Smart app.
- Download and install the app from the HP website or your device’s app store, and follow the instructions to set up and use the scanner.
Check for Firmware Updates
- Firmware updates can fix bugs and improve functionality. Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer model.
- Update the firmware if necessary.
Try these steps and see if the yellow background issue gets resolved.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
