HELP! My new HP M209dw laser printer only prints with their new app. The older Smart Print app did a bunch of things and I need the previous app that let me scan with my camera and save it as a pdf. What the heck happened and does HP intend to fix this or not?!?

@Owl02, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP M209dw Printer Issues!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
The HP LaserJet M209dw printer is primarily a printing device, and it does not include fax or scan functionalities, as indicated by its specifications. Its main capability is printing documents, with no integrated fax or scanning feature. Therefore, any fax and scan functions would need third-party assistance, like using the HP Smart app on a mobile device or using separate multifunction devices.
Regarding the HP Smart app, it is designed to assist with printing and enabling some features through software updates and integrations. While the M209dw itself may not support scanning directly on the device, the HP Smart app can facilitate scanning documents using your device’s camera and save them as PDFs:
Using the HP Smart App
Set Up the HP Smart App:
- Download and install the HP Smart app on your mobile device.
- Add your HP LaserJet M209dw printer to the app.
Scan Using Your Camera:
- Open the HP Smart app.
- Use the "Camera Scan" feature to take a photo of the document using your device's camera.
- Save the scanned image directly as a PDF through the app settings.
Possible Issues and Solutions:
- App Compatibility: Ensure you are using the latest version of the HP Smart app. Older apps like HP Smart Print may have reduced functionality or are unsupported for newer devices.
- PDF Saving: Make sure you configure the app to save as PDF in the settings section after capturing the document image.
- Connectivity: Ensure your device is properly connected to the printer. Check for wireless or USB connections as applicable.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
