Is there a solution for installing OCR for my scanner?
Is there a solution for scanning over sized documents with multiple scans and then stitching the multiple scans?

Hello @Turpic,
welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you have a query Turpic in installing OCR
I am happy to help you with this issue!
OCR is one of the options which is preinstalled in the full featured software in case if you have just installed the basic drivers you may not find OCR as an option.
Uninstall the current software from the programs and features.
Some HP software components might have installed incorrectly, even if the driver and printer setup did not complete.
-
If your printer connects to the computer with a USB cable, disconnect the cable from the printer.
-
Search Windows for programs and features, then click Programs and Features in the list of results.
-
In the list of installed programs, click your HP printer name, then click Uninstall or Yes.
-
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the software removal.
-
Restart the computer.
Reinstall the HP software.
- Turn on the printer.
- If your printer is connected to the computer with a USB cable, disconnect the cable from the printer.
- For you to download the full featured software click here.
- Click Download next to the full feature driver (recommended), or click Basic Drivers for other driver options.

I completed the instructions you left with regard to installing the OCR function (the software was identical to the one I already had installed so I reinstalled it). Still I could not find any reference to the OCR function. How do I access the OCR function and how do I use it. Instructions always come in handy. Why is there no reference to the OCR function in any of the help files and forums.
What about the ability to scan large documents using multiple scans and then stitch these multiple scans to create a complete document. Is this possible, if so then how is this done???

Hello @Turpic, I am the @Chimney_83. It looks like you were interacting with @A4Apollo, but he is out of the office today so I'll take over from here.
Thanks for the reply, to get the option for OCR, please select the scan option from the printer assistant. (icon of the printer on the desktop.)
If you have installed the full feature software of the printer on your computer.
When you save the scanned document, you will have an option to save in editable text format. This is the function of OCR.
If you are unable to find this option, request you to share a screenshot of the options available when you scan a document on your computer using HP Print Assistant.
Once you have scanned a document, you will have an option in the Scan Application setting to add a document to any scanned file. (Stitch)
Found this HP Video on YouTube which will help you with OCR (editable text) and Stitch. Click here for the video.
Please click here for the user manual of your printer.
Let me know if this helped.

After much searching and discussions with IT technicians if have found out that there is no OCR function for the Envy 5546 and there is no 3rd party software either. Your reply is totally inacurate and I am of the opinion that you need to be retrained!!!

Hello, @Turpic
I'd like to jump in with a suggestion!
You are right about the Envy not coming with the OCR software / supporting the OCR. I might be wrong, but, If your HP scanner or All-in-One printer doesn’t offer OCR software you can purchase Readiris Pro OCR software online.
Or, you can try to download the file from here: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/readiris/Readiris14ProHPWin.zip
Depending on your printer, you have to activate the product after installation.
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!
Good luck 🙂
