Product: Office Jet Pro 8720
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I've just taken delivery of an Office Jet 8720 and when scanning the pdf documents produced are huge.

I've looked on the forum and all seem to refer to other types of software, with changes to setting that i just don't have on HP Scan.

Anyone got any ideas?

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.  Apologies for jumping in here.

 

Using the FULL feature software that was installed for OfficeJet Pro 8720:

 

Follow these steps:

 

Go to "More"Go to "More"Go to "Destination" and select the "+" on File typeGo to "Destination" and select the "+" on File typeSelect a smaller file size and then click OKSelect a smaller file size and then click OK

 

If you have not installed the FULL feature software, the following resource will help you :

https://support.hp.com/sg-en/drivers

Key in your printer model, Operating System and download & install the FULL feature software.

Scanning issues…

 

Please try this scan solution:

 

HP Scan Extended


For Windows:   ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi


Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"

 

Check all your settings and expand all tabs and all + signs to see all options that you want.

 

Make searchable PDFs scans with this free scanning software - https://www.naps2.com/   

 

NAPS2 also allows you to:

 

  1. Maximize and resize the scanning screen on your computer.
  2. Scan over 300 ppi from the Glass or ADF.
  3. Save multiple pages (over 300 ppi) to one PDF file.

It still scans way to big.....the document I'm trying started off at 15MB, then got it down to 6MB by amending the standard setting.

Using the HP Scan EXT its down to 4MB....but need it under 1MB really.

 

Its only 6 pages of text - At this rate I'll have filled all our storage in no time.

 

Any other tips?

Assuming PDF format, adjust the scanning quality to lower maybe.
