I have a 6978 that will not do 2 sided copying. When copying from the document feeder I get this message "The selected paper or tray cannot be used copying on both sides of page. Job canceled". Scanning 2 sided works great. I've downloaded all the current drivers and used HP print & scan doc to no avail. Tried to update the firmware but Windows wouldn't allow it. Also, copying seems awful slow. Any suggestions?
I'm going to replace this printer with the same model because the color is not working well anymore on mine. I really like this printer.
I would hope someone would have some ideas before I get the new one so I don't have any problems.
Thanks to all for looking.

Have you made sure the printer settings for the printer?
Open and close the paper tray and evaluate the shown prompt, does it display the following?
"Did you load Plain Paper, US Letter?" etc.
If it shows any other settings, click No or Edit and be sure to set the paper settings accordingly, a wrong paper settings may cause a such as well, not necessarily the paper itself...

Well, thanks for replying, but 2 sided copying still does not work. I am not on a network and don't want to be. I could scan the document and save it as a PDF, then print, but that seems like unnecessary work. This printer is supposed to copy two sided and it does not.
Thanks. Perhaps you may have another solution. I hope the new one I'm getting will work.

Hi,
Please open and close the paper tray and evaluate the shown prompt, make sure the correct paper type and size are selected for the used paper.
Be aware that only select sizes are supported for two-sided copying or printing, consult the 'Paper-handling specifications > Supported paper sizes' section below:

Thanks, but I'm using standard 8 1/2 by 11 inch printer paper. Works for duplex printing from the paper tray and duplex scanning from the document feeder. I am trying to copy 2 sided from the document feeder; I believe the only way auto duplex copying can be done. I had purchased a different printer and returned it then put my old 6978 back in. The copying worked before. There has to be a problem somewhere, either the software of the printer. I have a new 6978 ordered and I hope I don't have this same problem.
Would greatly appreciate any input and suggestions. Thanks

Well that worked and I'm sorry for wasting everyone's time. I assumed that because I was using the document feeder it did not matter what the letter tray was setting was; obviously I'm an idiot😊. Thanks again to all that helped me.
