I’ve been using an OfficeJet 8500 Pro Wireless to scan to a network folder on a Windows 7 desktop for several years with no problems. Recently added a Windows 10 desktop to my network. I have successfully setup the network folder between the printer and the Windows 10 computer but am not able to scan usable PDF files to its network folder. The scanning process generates a pdf file in the network folder but that file is 0KB and will not open in a pdf reader. The pdf reader gives an error: “Format error: Not a PDF or corrupted.”
The printer still scans correctly to the Windows 7 desktop but fails with the Windows 10 desktop.
Forum searches indicate that others have had this problem with Windows 8 as well as Windows 10. But I do not find in those threads a specific action to take to resolve the issue. Anyone know specifically what to do to successfully scan to a Windows 10 network folder?

Thanks for the reply and trying the suggested steps.
The firmware update is done on the printer and is independent of the computer. Firmware update helps in improving the performance of the printer.
Please refer to this HP Forums post where the issue was resolved by a firmware update. (Read the post by d-org)
You can also refer to this HP Forums post, where a clean uninstall of the printer and reinstall was suggested.
Are you able to scan to Network folder on Windows 7 computer?
Keep me posted.

Hello The Fossette. Thanks for the advice and web page link, but it is of no help. Please bear in mind that prior to my initial post I had already configured the OfficeJet 8500 Pro to link to the desktop computer's My Scans folder. That linkage appears to function to the extent that the scanner produces a file in the My Scans folder. The problem is that the file, even though it has a .pdf extension, is not a valid pdf file and is 0KB. Using the information provided on the web page you referenced I created another network folder link for the scanner which also produces 0KB invalid pdf files.
I would appreciate any further advice.
Can you confirm that the OfficeJet 8500 Pro is compatible with Windows 10? Have others successfully scanned pdf's to a Windows 10 network folder?
Steve

Hi The Fossette,
You did not respond to the questions at the end of my last posting.
Allow me to ask again: Can you confirm that OfficeJet 8500 Pro scan-pdf-to-network-folder is compatible with Windows 10? Can you confirm that others have been successful in getting this functionality to work?
Thanks.

Hi @steve1122
Thank you for posting back.
Yes, your printer does support scan to network.
Please refer to the below service manual (Page 61) for more information.

Hello again The Fossette,
Again, you did not respond to my question
Can you confirm that the OfficeJet 8500 Pro scan-pdf-to-network-folder function is compatible with Windows 10? Have other users been successful in getting the OfficeJet 8500 Pro to scan pdf's to a Windows 10 network folder?
I'm sorry to belabor the point, but I'd like to know that this scan function is possible? Or maybe not?

Hi @ steve1122, I am the @Chimney_83. It looks like you were interacting with @The_Fossette, but he is out of the office today so I'll take over from here.
Thanks for the reply.
Scan to Network folder uses web services and is independent of the operating system. Please try the procedure suggested in the manual.
You can also use the EWS page of your printer to setup scan to network folder.
EWS page can be accessed by entering the IP address of your printer on any web browser on your computer.
Hope this helped.

Hello Chimney_83,
Thanks for the information that scanning to a network folder is a web service and independent of operating system. That is a general answer to my question. I would still like to know specifically if other users have been successful in scanning from an OfficeJet 8500 Pro to a Windows 10 network folder.
I have set up the scan link using the OfficeJet 8500 Pro embedded web server. The Windows 10 EWS screen is configured like a Windows 7 EWS screen. The OfficeJet 8500 Pro scans OK to the Windows 7 computer.
I have also set up the scan link using the wizard in the HP Solution Center. Again, the Windows 10 EWS screen is configured like a Windows 7 EWS screen.
The end result of both configuration processes is that a 0KB file with pdf extension is created in the Windows 10 folder. PDF readers recognize these files as not being a pdf or being corrupt.
In a previous note The Fossette advised updating the OfficeJet 8500 Pro firmware. If, as you say, scanning to a network folder is a web service and independent of operating system, why would the firmware update be needed? If the OfficeJet 8500 Pro works with Windows 7 (and Windows XP before that), then it should work with Windows 10, right? (And besides, I don't like messing with a device's firmware due to the risk involved.)
