OfficeJet Pro 8725 - scans from the feeder are skewed

Using an OfficeJet Pro 8725.  The scans from the feeder are skewed.  The scans from the glass are not skewed.  It has been a problem for a while now; I've been scanning from the glass, but that's not always practical.

I've tried a few solutions discussed online.  Still no luck.  Anyone have a way to fix this problem?  Thanks

The usual (and should work) -

Use a flashlight (torch in the UK); shine the light at an angle along the glass.

Clean, clean, clean.

Use a tiny brush to sweep all along the edges of the glass.

 Improving Scan Quality

What worked using an Officejet Pro 8740:

After cleaning, checking, fussing, changing paper (trying different documents to scan), and fighting with the "skewed" scans from the ADF, I increased the scan DPI to 300.  Worked.  No idea why except it perhaps slowed the scan just enough that it wasn't racing through the nicely cleaned ADF bar and the sparkly clean rollers.

It is also possible that the printer dislikes the paper on which your document is printed.  Again, no "defense" - just a thought on the subject.  Maybe the actual "ink on paper" is catching (this is a bit of a stretch).  Maybe the paper is too thin / thick / dry / curled / or otherwise "not right".

Thanks for the response.  I have a question and a clarification.

Question.  You said: " I increased the scan DPI to 300. "  I'm not sure how to do that.  Will google and poke around.  Can you point me towards that change (in case I have no luck)?

Clarification.  You mentioned issued with paper.  My problem involves scanning through the ADF to a PDF file on my computer.  That's where I'm getting the skew.

I figured out how to change the DPI.  But that seems relevant to printing out something on paper.  Again, my problem is scanning paper from the ADF into a PDF file on my computer.  The scans end up skewed.

I'm 99% certain that this is a software problem.  Why?  Because when I use the ADF to COPY documents, the copies print out fine, not skewed.  And when I use the printer glass to scan-to-PDF, the PDF files are fine.  But when I use the ADF to scan-to-PDF, the PDF files are skewed.  Something is tilting the scan when it goes from the ADF to PDF.  (NOT when it goes from the ADF to a physical copy.)

Understood.  I realize the suggestions / ideas are outside the "normal" canned answsers.  Smiling.

Could be software in your situation.  Nothing I did using a similar printer (for scan from ADF) had any effect other than the suggestion I mentioned to change the DPI.  And, yes, it does seem odd and I cannot explain it.  I no longer have the printer and cannot retest the results.

The "paper" has to do with the paper on which the document is printed - the document you are feeding into the ADF.  Again, the paper may not be the culprit.  Not all paper feeds as expected.  Should feed correctly, of course - but may not do so...  Just something to consider.

Try / Consider -

Software > Change scan settings to straighten content

Link / Download:  HP Scan Extended 

Download, save, and install to use.  Exceptional free HP scan program:  HP Scan Extended features include (and are not limited to): Single, Multiple scans, Image and PDF scans, Email as PDF / JPEG, Source selection, Page Size choices include Auto-Detect (extracts image / document boundary).  May include OCR (Save as Editable Text).

NOTES

• HPSE is an older subset of the printer software; features are very similar to scan software included in 2015 or newer Full Feature Software packages.
• If you have the newer version of the scan software inside your Full Feature Software, use that: Printer Assistant shortcut icon on Desktop (named for printer) > Scan a document or image (wording varies).
• Although the HPSE program works as a separate program, HPSE is dependent on the infrastructure provided by the printer software. The Full Feature Software for your printer should be installed before installing HPSE.
• OPTIONAL: Add HP Scan Extended shortcut to Taskbar / Send to Desktop / Pin to Start
  • Open File Explorer > Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP Scan Extended\bin
  • Right-Clickexe > Select Pin to Taskbar / Send to Desktop / Pin to Start

Example:

Place document on glass or into ADF

Open HPSE Software

Select Options

HPSE_Scan-to-PDF_1

 After adjusting options on the main menu, Click More 

Select Document > Check box to "straighten" the content

After all options are set in each category, click Scan

HPSE_Save_as_PDF_Document_Straighten_1

That was a good suggestion.  The scan is imperfect, but at least your idea fixes the "skew" problem.  Thanks for taking the time to share.

I have a second printer in storage.  I'm going to dig it up and see if it will scan without this "workaround."  And if so, I'll probably unload my current printer on Craigslist.  But if all that happens, I can point the buyer to your fix.
