The Scanner is functioning. Thank you so very much for this excellent help. In fact, I suspect that the computer is very happy indeed with its recent bath and I am delighted with the results.

Thank you.  I have used Scan Doctor.  Device Manager and Driver Check fail.  All else passes.  When I followed instructions and opened the task manager "scanapp.exe and keygrip.exe" were not listed.  Since then I have searched my C-drive and not located them.  Where should they be located?  Incidentally the Support Forum is new to me, but once I found it I think it very helpful.  Noindy

Sounds like they may not have been installed.  What brand of computer are you using?  I need to know so I can point you to the right scrubber for you.  I think you may need to start fresh.

Try using the scrubber built into the CD or Download.  These steps are for non-HP computers only.

3. Open folder Util

4. Open folder CCC

I have been having a similar problem with my HP J4680.  It started when I decided to install new drivers after encountering difficulties with the quality of scanned images (some colours appeared to have a 'woven' texture).

I did a full install of the latest All-in-one package (I have actually done this install several times now, with no better luck).  Not only did this not fix the scan quality issue, but it led to a further proiblem.  When scanning through the HP Solution Center, the first scan works fine, but every subsequent attempt generates the 'hp 8 [(0, 18 ...' error message, telling me that another computer or program is using the HP device.  If I reboot, I ca n do another single scan, but the error recurs on every additional try.

I tried running 'Fix Scan' in the HP Print and Scan Doctor utility: it found a Driver Error:  'The scan driver is unable to communicate with the product' and told me to unplug the scanner, turn it back on and reboot.  when I did that, the utility reported 'this tool was unable to resolve the issue, even after a reboot.'

I couldn't try the instructions listed earlier on this thread, because I am using an HP Pavilion Computer, model a6418f, running Windows Vista Home Premium.

I have two questions:

  - Can you help me solve the driver issue I am having.

  - Can you comment on my original scan quality issue ?

Thank you
