I have used an HP Print and Scan application for years. It has recently disappeared from my laptop. I downloaded the HP Smart app, installed it and set up an account, only to find that it does not allow scanning on my Officejet 4650 all-in-one. Deletion and restarting has not changed anything. Running an Acer with Windows 11 Home.

Hi @Newbie49LC,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you have a tool you relied on to go missing and then run into issues with the replacement. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the scanning issue with the HP Smart app:
Update Drivers and Software:
- HP Printer Software: Go to the HP Support website and download the latest drivers and software for the OfficeJet 4650. Sometimes, having the most current software can resolve compatibility issues.
- Windows Update: Make sure your Windows 11 is up to date. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.
Check Printer Connectivity:
- Ensure that your printer is connected to the same network as your laptop. For network printers, ensure they are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- If using a USB connection, make sure the cable is securely connected to both the printer and the laptop.
Reconfigure HP Smart App:
- Open the HP Smart app and go to the settings or printer setup section.
- Remove the printer from the app and then add it back. This can sometimes resolve detection issues.
Use Windows Scan Tool:
- As a temporary workaround, you can use the built-in Windows Scan tool. Go to Start > Windows Accessories > Windows Fax and Scan. Choose "New Scan" to see if you can scan from there.
Check for HP Smart App Updates:
- Sometimes, the app might have updates that address bugs or issues. Go to the Microsoft Store, search for the HP Smart app, and check if there's an update available.
Reinstall HP Smart App:
- Uninstall the HP Smart app from your laptop. Restart your computer, then download and reinstall the app from the Microsoft Store.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
