Good morning, I have my printer that prints but not scan. Every time that I try to scan some documents my pc works very slow and at the end the scanning procedure doesn't work. No problems with the printing procedure (the print is very fast and precise). I tried to use "Hp print and scan Doctor" software and the result is: "Error with windows scan (WIA)". So, I tried to uninstall and install again the hp print software, i tried to update the drivers, but my printer is still NOT scanning. Could anybody help me, please? thanks alvin

Hi

Thanks for using the HP Forums.

Can you try this:

* *Note that if there are other printers installed, these will need to be reinstalled after this.

Step 1. Uninstall the HP Software from your PC.

Please follow the steps provided to uninstall the printer software in the link: Uninstalling the Printer Software (Windows)
https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c02259020

Also, please follow the steps provided below to completely remove the printer software from printer properties.
Steps to remove printer driver files from Print Server Properties:

Step 2. Open the Print Server Properties dialog window by doing one of the following:
• Click the Start menu and in the search field type 'printui /s /t2' (without the quotes), and then press Enter or click it in the search list.
• Press WINDOWS-R on the keyboard to bring up the Run window, type in 'printui /s /t2' (without the quotes), and then press Enter or click OK. Remove or delete all HP references.
• From the Start menu or the Start screen:
• Open Devices and Printers.
• Select any printer and then click "Print server properties" at the top of the window.
• Click on the Drivers tab. Delete the HP drivers

Step 3. Backup your registry before making any registry changes, the following resource will show you how:
https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03485724

Step 4. Update the registry using the Reg file below
Note: this will change some printer related policies for your PC):
https://www.dropbox.com/s/avbv56zdgwv7600/kernel.reg?dl=1

Step 5. Right click the Start menu and select Run.
Type Services.msc and press OK.
Locate and stop the Print Spooler service

Step 6. Browse to c:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers.
Rename W32X86 to W32x86.old
Rename x64 to x64.old
Note: if any of these folders fail to rename reboot your PC and then Continue following the steps starting from Step 4.

Step 7. Restart PC.

Step 8. Finally, reinstall the HP Software.

Hope that helps!

Hi Greenturtle and thanks for you preciuos help. I tried to follow all your instructions but it doesn't work. It seems that my pc is not able to find the correct driver for my printer (see the screen shot attached). Do you think that the problem is connected to windows update procedure? Because looking at the driver installation procedure, everytime it has been blocked when the printer driver looks for the windows update... If you can give me further help it will be appreciated. thank alvin

Hi @alvin356

Didn't see any screenshot.

However, can you try this standalone Scan software :

(It may or may not work)

HP Scan Extended

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi

Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"

Hope that helps!

Hi Greenturtle,

thanks again for your help and patience. Now the situation is even worst because I am not able anymore to install the hp printer software 😞  and so not only the printer doesn't scan (I tried also with your Hp scan extended software) but also doesn't print anymore... I've made also the windows update but nothing, now my xp laptop  (model spectre xt) doesn't want to communicate with the printer. As soon as I try to install the hp printer software, the extrating job stops at 14% and nothing more.... Please can you help me?  here attached my printer situations screen shot... thanks again for you help. alvinprinter situation.jpg

Hi @alvin356

We're confused.  Is your PC a WIn 7 or a Win Xp or you're trying to install the printer software on multiple PCs?

We're suggest at this point to uninstall all the sofwtare and try installing again.

Can you try this Uninstaller from Microsoft and then reinstall the FULL feature software again?

Hope that helps!

Hi greenturtle,

my pc is wondows 7 home premium. I try to better explain my situation.... When I install the Hp printer software, the automatic procedure go ahed until the "the pheripheral configuration" stage (see sreen shot n.1), then I am waiting for several minutes (about 10 minutes) and after this, the result is "impossibile to configure the peripheral" (see screen shot n,.2). So after this, I am going ahead whit the printer software installation but at the end  the result is "Internal mistake = in the system, peripheral compatibles are not installed" (see screen shot n. 3). And so at the end, now I am not able neither print or scan.  So, do you know how I can solve the problems of these pheriperals? believe me I really appreciate your help.perifierica non rilevata def.jpgperifierica non rilevata def 2.jpgerrore interno.jpg

Hi,

Unplug any USB cable from the printer.

Try the uninstaller from Microsoft and then reinstall. DO NOT PLUG in the USB cable until prompted to do so.
