Hello,

I recently started working from home and was provided with an Aruba Firewall Router that i had to connect to my Internet Provider's modem.  After doing this I lost scanning functionality from my wifi connected printers.  I was not able to print them either and was forced to install generically  using the IP address.  Can anyone help?  Much appreciated.

Thanks!

As long as the firewall / security is not actively blocking the setup or the software,

You may still be able to install and use the Full Feature Software.

You may still need to use the TCP/IP connection method.

Try this first - it may take care of the weird bits...

Offline Doctor V5.0.6

  • Download and Save the doctor to your computer
  • Open File Explorer > Navigate to the folder in which you saved the file (likely Downloads)
  • Execute the doctor – Answer any prompts /  let the process complete
  • Restart the computer, log in, and wait for the final steps in the Doctor to finish.
  • Check for any difference.

  Version = V5.0.6

  HPPSdr_5.0.6.exe

NOTES – Contributed by ShlomiL

Paraphrased

Connection Issues

  • Print and Scan Doctor Version 5.0.6 creates a secondary queue for printing with TCP/IP port.

Loss of Color Printing

  • If the color printing is not yet offered, try printing using the newly added print queue.
  • Verify results, then set the newly added printer as the default.

Details: Windows10 - No Color option available when printing to a network connected printer

Check

If necessary, Adjust the “Default” printing device (Default Printer)

Open Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers

Right-Click on the printer NOT marked as “Scan Only / DO NOT DELETE”

Set printer as Default

Example – Printers listed in Devices and Printers

Set “Default” Printer = HP OfficeJet Pro 9020 series PCL-3

Keep in Device list = Scan Only -HP OfficeJet Pro 9020 series PCL-3 (Network)-DO NOT DELETE

Thank you for the advice.  I have tried the scan doctor, installing the full software, and the TCP/IP install.  For some reason my printer will not communicate with my PC.   Prior to installing the hardware provided by work my set up was:

PC > 8-port switch > Modem

New setup

PC > 8-port switch > Aruba Firewall (from work) > ISP Modem

Printers were setup via WiFi and detectable.  New setup will not allow me to scan directly to computers.  Only way i could get it to print was to install via TCP/IP.

Not sure what else to do.

Thank you again!

The whole point of the Firewall is to break / limit communication.

I suppose it's possible - assuming anything is actually not work the way it is designed - that there is a setting in either the router security or the firewall that is not working as expected (wanted, in this case).  That is, the firewall may be overriding something in the router security that you want as the "default" action.  Muddled?  It has been a lot of years since I worked in the Network group.

I don't know.

Doctor 5.0.6

Well, it was worth a try - the Doctor is not designed to burrow through a Firewall - this version of the doctor is pretty good about "doing what can be done" with connection issues in a standard network / router environment.

Can you scan using the HP Smart software on the computer?

If it works, scanning using software on the computer provides many more options than standing at the printer and clicking "scan".

What else?

Not sure what it would "tell you" - you could try using Webscan - this method uses the Embedded Web Server (EWS).  EWS Webscan does not require "printer software", though it might well get hung up on communication issues.   In fact, it is somewhat likely that Webscan may balk.

Meh.  Easy to try and EWS good to know...

Webscan – located in the Embedded Web Server (EWS) – No additional software

If the printer is on the network,

  • Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar
  • Tab Settings > Security > Administrator Settings > make sure Webscan is checked / enabled
  • Tab Scan > Webscan

Example - Enable Webscan

EWS_9025_Webscan_Settings_Security_AdministratorEWS_9025_Webscan_Settings_Security_Administrator

Example - Webscan SettingsEWS_9025_Webscan_1EWS_9025_Webscan_1

Thank you again for your advice.  I will surely try whatever I can.  I appreciate it.

I was able to get the printer to scan using Scan App.  I guess I can deal with it like this for now.   🙂

Thanks,
