I bought the HP Deskjet 2542 all in one wifi printer about 5 years ago from Argos. It had been working fine up until recently. For whatever reason, whenever i print something now, the printer just prints a blank page. I have spent an entire day troubleshooting this issue using the software provided by HP and using the online support from HP, but nothing has helped - I hope someone can help me?

Hi @Deskjet_User2
Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the "print quality" issue.
To better assist you -
1) Does the copy come out the same way?
2) What's the application you are trying to print from? Have you tried printing from a different application or device?
While you respond to that, let's print a Print Quality Diagnostic page
-
Load clean, white U.S. Letter or A4 paper in the input tray, if necessary.
-
Touch and hold the Power button (
), and then press the Cancel button (
).
-
Let go of the Cancel button and then the Power button. The test page prints.
Post the Print Quality Diagnostic page here so we can help you further.
You may also refer to this document with steps to fix "Printing blank pages" issue applicable for your printer - Black Ink Not Printing and Other Print Quality Issues
Try updating the printer's firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
Also, try single-cartridge mode
The printer you own can work in single-cartridge mode, wherein the printer will be able to print with one cartridge in the printer.which will help us identify if its a cartridge issue or a printhead issue
To try single-cartridge mode follow the below steps:
remove the black ink from the printer, leave the color in and try printing
then remove the color ink and, insert the black in and try printing
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hello,
1) Copying also prints a blank page.
2) The applications I print from include Microsoft Word and PDF file. I have tried printing from other laptops, but the same occurs.
I don't know how to upload the test page for you to see, but i used the HP Print & Scan doctor, and the result of the test page was fine.
I have updated the firmware and restarted the printer, but the printer still prints blank pages.
I have tried single-cartridge mode, but this also prints blank pages.
As i mentioned in my initial post, I used HP ask an agent, but that did not help. I also used HP print & Scan doctor - this also did not resolve my issue. I don't understand why my HP printer is printing blank pages - please can someone help?

As this is a hardware issue, I'd suggest you Contact HP in your region regarding the service options for your printer.
If you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty. If yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from. Check next to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.
Have a great day!

Hello,
I am from the United Kingdom (UK) and yes, my product is out of warranty.
I have gone onto the contact hp customer support section for the UK and found 3 options: Online virtual agent, HP community support, and HP Phone Support (Fee Based) - i have already tried the first 2 options, and am not willing to pay a fee to resolve this issue.
I just wish that someone could solve this issue?
Thanks
