My printer won't allow me to scan either from the software or the printer itself. When I try to install the scanner software it doesn't find my printer and when I touch the wifi button on my printer it says "this feature has been disabled. Contact the person who set up the printer" - however, that person was me.
It is super frustrating and I have been working on this for a couple of hours now. Just keep going in circles. I would appreciate any help you can give me.
thanks

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips!
I understand you are having issues with scanning and with the network capabilities have been disabled on your HP OfficeJet printer. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find a solution.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Have you recently made any changes on the printer before the issue started?
Does that Scanner bulb light up?
Does the scanner bar move when you open the lid & press the copy button?
Have you checked if the unit can make a standalone copy? If ‘YES’ then it means the scan hardware of the All-in-One works fine.
Let's start off by performing an advance reset on the printer and then once done, let's setup the printer once again.
I am sending you a private message with the steps to reset the printer. Please check the mailbox icon at the top-right corner of this screen.
Please check your Private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Forums profile,
Next, to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.
once you are done with the advance reset, I would suggest you go ahead and setup your printer.
Let’s first try and make a “photocopy” to determine whether the issue is with the printer or not. Place a document on the scanner glass and choose “Copy” option. If the printer is making a good copy, then the printer hardware is fine.
If the copy comes out fine, then I would suggest you to go ahead and install the printer software:
First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Officejet printer entries and uninstall them.
Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
Restart your computer.
Now click on this link: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/COL65822/bi-158437-1/OJ8740__Full_WebPack_1912.exe to download and install the printer software.
Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
Please reply back on the public post as this Private message box is not monitored.
I hope this helps resolve this issue completely,
Regards,
Jeet_Singh

Hello,
I need to scan documents onto my computer. I had never done this until yesterday. I hooked my printer to my computer via the USB cable and was able to scan some documents successfully. I went to do a few more today and the printer is saying that the computer does not have the printer programmed to it, and the computer is saying the scanner doesn't work. I'm so frustrated and confused. It was apparently working yesterday and now today the computer and printer can't communicate? Please help thanks Meg

Hi @megjunk
Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.
Are you able to print from your PC?
Install HP Scan extended application on the PC to scan
Click here to download the application.
Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"
If you want to scan from the printer screen to the computer, the HP full-featured driver must be installed on the PC
Click here to download the HP Full-featured driver.
Open the HP Printer assistant > Go to Scan > Scan to computer > Make sure it is enabled.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
Please click “Accept as Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.
Click the “Kudos, Thumbs Up" on the bottom right to say “Thanks” for helping!
Have a great day!
