Hi @Angelo1941,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the automatic update for your HP OfficeJet 6950 might have caused an issue with the scanning software. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the problem:

Restart Everything:

  • Restart your computer and the printer. Sometimes, a simple restart can fix software issues.

Update HP Smart Software:

  • Ensure you have the latest version of HP Smart installed. You can download it from the Microsoft Store or the HP website.

Reinstall Printer Software:

  • Uninstall the current HP printer software from your computer.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Download the latest software for your HP OfficeJet 6950 from the HP Support website and install it.

Check for Additional Updates:

  • Sometimes, after a major update, other updates or patches might be available. Check Windows Update and HP's support site for any additional updates.

Reset Printer Settings:

  • You can try resetting your printer to factory settings. Refer to your printer’s manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.

Check Firewall/Antivirus Settings:

  • Ensure that your firewall or antivirus is not blocking the HP software. You might need to add exceptions for the HP Smart app or the HP software suite.

Use Windows Built-in Troubleshooter:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters, and run the printer troubleshooter to detect and fix issues.

HP Scan and Capture App:

  • As an alternative, you can try using the HP Scan and Capture app, available from the Microsoft Store. It might help with scanning if HP Smart isn't working.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
