I never found a solution to just scanning from my computer but I did set it up so I could scan from the Printer and it would either send it to my email or send it to a folder on my computer drive. Both options work fine. You need to access your printer admin panel via your network connection and can set up the folder scanning and email scanning options (setting default email/s).
Then when you want to scan you simply run the documents using the scan function and select the option to send to email or pre-config to send to a folder.

I managed to successfully setup these solutions as well; but that's not the way my family is used to scan 😎
After several re-installations of drivers, reset of device, etc. I do not find a solution, the device simly is not recognized as a scanner. Neither in Windows nor un the HP software; that's annoying.
For the smaller models/Pro models I've found a remark in the German HP Customer-Support Knowledgebase (https://support.hp.com/de-de/document/c06270154), that remote scanning needs to be activated in EWS. But that selection unfortunately is not available in EWS for M480f; I'm at least not able to find it 😥
