Welcome to the HP English Community --
HP Scan Extended was a subset of what is now an old version of HP Scan.
HPSE included features not found in some printer software of the time.
Specifically, HPSE included the then "newer" (or at least less common) Page Size feature Auto Detect - a nice option that can scan multiple photos placed on the printer flatbed (glass) and then save the images as individual files. The Save to PDF shortcut included a similar "Detect" option for documents.
Reminders
At this point, HPSE is old -- it is perhaps no longer compatible with more modern printers and other printer software.
HPSE was at least partially dependent on the full driver, on the printer model, and how that printer was connected to the network.
Assuming the software works at all, HPSE cannot fix, solve, resolve, or otherwise correct connection issues or other print problems.
-----------------------------------------------------
The premise, that is, the way HPSE worked, was no different from other versions of HP Scan:
- Load scan content in / on printer
- Open HPSE
- Select Shortcut
- Adjust main menu options and those in the More sub-menus
- Scan the content
- Save (or other options as dictated by the controlling shortcut)
