When I try to scan something I get the following pop up message....
Scan Error. The printer is busy and cannot start any new jobs. Wait a few minutes or try restarting the printer.
I have tried restarting. I have tried unplugging it. I cant figure out whats wrong.

Does the scanner light move, when you try to copy? If it doesn't then it means that it's a hardware failure. 🙂
Please check the private message I've sent.
Good luck. 🙂

Hey there! @PrincessLMC77, Welcome to HP forums.
I understand when you try to scan you are getting scanner is busy error on the printer.
Don't worry I'll try to help you out.
Did you make any changes to your printer?
Does the issue when you make a copy from your printer?
Have you tried scanning from a different application?
Excellent description and a great diagnosis done. It is greatly appreciated.
Try using a windows 10 PC and update the printer firmware.
Update the printer firmware using this link. Click Here
Try the steps recommended below.
Going through your post, it looks like a scanner failure issue with your printer. This happens when the printer gets insufficient power to the scanner or when there is a mechanical issue with the printer scanner mechanism. Try the steps mentioned below to try and fix the issue.
Remove the cartridges from the printer.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Remove USB cable, if present.
Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.
Check the scanner bar functionality
Perform a visual test of the scanner mechanism to see if it is jammed.
Remove any original documents or photos from the scanner glass.
Lift the scanner lid slightly, and then press the Copy button or icon.
If the scanner light does not move, the scanner mechanism is likely jammed. Contact HP to service the printer.
Download and run print and scan doctor on a windows PC and check if it helps.

Let me know how it goes!
Have a great day ahead! 🙂

I followed the steps you listed and had no luck. When I try to Copy the printer does nothing except the power button flashes white. It doesnt even sound like its trying to scan.
I only use the scanner/printer wirelessly so its not hooked up to a computer. I cant run the Diagnosis Tool without a computer.
