HP Scan and Capture was simple and worked well.  Why was it discontinued?  I got a new laptop and cannot scan.

Don't give me your cut and paste "Troubleshooting".  It won't work.

The cloud-based HP Smart won't work for me.

I've tried the "Full Web Pack" HP Scan Assistant - won't work.

Scan and Capture worked for my setup - Even though the printer/scanner is on a different network segment.

Is there an archive location for Scan and Capture?

Hi there,

I understand your frustration with the discontinuation of HP Scan and Capture. Unfortunately, software like this often gets phased out as companies move towards newer solutions.

Here are a few suggestions that might help:

  1. Third-Party Software: Consider using third-party scanning software such as VueScan or NAPS2. These can be more flexible and might work better with your setup.

  2. HP Customer Support: Contact HP directly to see if they can provide an archive or alternative download for HP Scan and Capture. Sometimes they have legacy software available upon request.

  3. Compatibility Mode: If you have an old installer for HP Scan and Capture, try running it in compatibility mode on your new laptop. Right-click the installer, go to Properties > Compatibility, and choose an older version of Windows.

  4. Network Setup: Since your printer/scanner is on a different network segment, ensure both devices can communicate. Adjusting your network settings or using a VPN might help them connect.

  5. Alternative HP Software: Double-check if any other HP software or apps might work. Sometimes newer versions are released that might be more compatible with your system.

I hope one of these solutions works for you!

Best,

RHJ
