I was gifted this printer which I don't believe was used very much.  It seems to work fine printing documents and emails from the laptop but if I try to scan from my laptop (new HP) or from the touchscreen on the printer, it comes out black with multiple lines.  This also happens with trying to copy a document.  I have cleaned the scanner glass and the lid and I have tried to make sure I have the latest drivers and such but nothing I'm doing makes any difference. It also comes out black with multiple lines if I use the document feeder either to scan or make a copy.

I understand that you are getting  lines while copying, I am glad to assist you.

 

Perform a power reset , Reset the printer to recover from printer errors or failures.

  1. Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  4. Wait at least 30 seconds.
  5. Plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet and printer without any surge protector.
  6. Turn on the printer.

Update the printer firmware to install the latest updates
