HP Envy 4500 Series
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have had my HP printer for some time and it has worked well, all through the wireless connection. Today, I needed to scan documents to send to someone and discovered that the only way I could do so was by putting each document on the printer glass and then going to the PC and scan from there, repeating until all documents were scanned,  The Scan from Printer option did not work.  I checked the printer settings and  Scan to Computer is enabled.  I don't know what else to do.

The problem finally disappeared when I had to install a new wireless router. Previously I had tried reinstalling the printer & reconnecting it on several occasions and it didn't work but for some reason installing the new router did the trick.

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.

Can you try using a TCP/IP port?

Create a TCP IP port

1. Print a Configuration Page to get the printer's IPv4 address (you can also tap on the wireless icon on the Front panel of your Printer to get the IP address)
2. On your PC, go to Control Panel, from Devices and Printers, right click the printer and left click Printer Properties, select the Ports tab.
3. Click Add Port, select Standard TCP/IP Port, then select New Port and follow the wizard.
4. Type in the proper IP address for the printer.

This video resource will show you how to do it:

Create & Use TCP IP port

Note that you can ALWAYS revert back to the original port that the HP software installed by selecting the HP port under the Ports tab (in Printer Properties)

If that doesn't work, please uninstall and reinstall the FULL feature software and enable the Scan to Ciomputer.

Let us know if that works

Thank you for trying to help resolve this problem.

I followed your instructions for creating a TCP IP port & double checked them in the YouTube video link you provided but nothing has changed.  I have deleted that port and am back using the previous one.

I have found the FULL feature software for this printer and will install it soon,

I have uninstalled the printer software and reinstalled the fully featured software for the HP Envy 4500 and nothing has changed. I'm still unable to Scan from the printer to my PC.

Can anyone suggest a solution?

Is there anybody that can help me solve this problem. See above for what I have tried so far.

Hi,

Not sure why the Scan to Computer isn't working.

Can you try this Uninstaller from Microsoft and then reinstall the FULL feature software again?

If you have another USB cable and port to plug it in, can you try that?

Would you have another computer that you would be able to try on?

Let us know if that works!

Hi, I only have one home computer and one printer.

I already used the microsoft uninstaller , twice, and installed the HP fully featured software twice also (file name EN4500.198).  The printer is connected wirelessly and I can print to it but the scanner is not recognised.  When I check the printer settings Scan to computer is enabled, but I get very annoying pop up Notifications every few minutes saying Scan to computer is no longer activated and the connection is lost.

I have used the printer for over a year as a printer only and all was well.  Then last week I needed to Scan a document and that's when I discovered the problem. Before I contacted HP Support I was able to Scan using the computer to iniatiate the scan after I placed the document on the printer glass.  That was tedious as the printer was upstairs and it would be so much simpler to scan from the printer panel. Now I can't Scan at all.

Downloading the up to date software has made my situation worse.

This afternoon when I was trying everything - including a USB connection - to get the Scanner  working I got a screen message saying that my Firewall was blocking the scanner connection.  I think it was from HP Print and Scan Doctor or the HP installation.  Another problem that I did not have before I contacted HP Support.

I'm not keen on uninstalling and reinstalling the same HP software yet again as each time I do so I am worse off than before.

Yes . I ran various scans and nothing is amiss.

Although I didn't want to uninstall & reinstall the printer software I decided to have one last try. Third time lucky and all that.  The installation went well and at the end it passed the HP printer and scan doctor test.  No errors or problems found.  I can print, as always,  and scan from the PC without a problem but still can't start a scan from the printer panel.  So I'm back to where I was before I contacted HP Support but now my system is slower.

I see that a lot of HP customers have this problem and many are not resolved. I think we just give up and put up with a printer that is not functioning as it should.  I know I have lost the will to continue.

This problem is NOT solved but thanks for trying.
