Scan to e-mail once worked, but now, no longer.

I do have 2-step authentication turned on in gmail, and I understand that turning this off would probably fix the issue, but I'm unwilling to forgo this security for the purposes of enabling Scan to email.

It used to be the case that a newly generated Google App password would serve in the password field, but now a "Test" shows I have "Incorrect credentials. Check your username/password and try again."

It does seem that after I enter the 16 digit App password that it gets truncated.

I am using the correct configuration settings (port = 465, etc.).

Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried using a shorter password?

In general, the process works - that is, using an App Password solves the problem of scan-to-email not supporting two-step verification.

This means nothing to you, of course - it is merely a somewhat useless confirmation that the method itself is still viable.

Another suggestion - optional, of course:

  • Try a different email address - if you don't have one, create a new email for this purpose.
  • The the email address without two-step verification and set the Less Secure access to ON.
  • Test it.

Works?  Good.

Hate it? Remove the email or set it, too, to two-step verification.

This does not fix your problem with the original email address though it does help make sure that the issue is not buried somewhere else in the process.

For Those Reading - If Not Using Two-Step Verification:

If your Scan-to-Email gmail setup suddenly stops working, it might be due to gmail having changed your setup.  What?? Yes, it can happen and there is a message right in your google email that says this is the case.

Log into your gmail account.

Click on your Account icon > Manage your Google Account

In the right column, select Security

If you are using Two-Step verification, Click into that setting and create an Apps Password for the application

If you are Not using Two-Step verification, scroll down and set "Less secure app access" to ON

Google will not like it and complains your account is vulnerable.

Google is right that "less secure" is less secure - best use a google (or other provider) email address for Scan-to-Email that is not also used for critical email access (private emails, emails with pictures of your children, travel plans, bank records, that sort of thing).
