I work at a financial institution. Recently our security auditors told us we have to put all of our printers on their own VLAN. They previously were on the same VLAN as our Exchange 2010 server.
So we've setup the VLAN and re-IP'ed one of our HP LaserJet M4345 MFPs. We can print to it, but scan-to-email is not working. The error we're getting is "Email gateway did not respond." I've tried both the FQDN and the IP address of the Exchange server. The thing that bothers me is it *immediately* displays that message after I set the email gateway. It doesn't feel like it's really trying to communicate with the server.
Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this would be appreciated.

Hi,
Were you able to scan to email prior to the network change?
Have you checked with your IT department if the VLAN configuration has changed? either you should change the address (e.g. the SMTP Server IP Address or there is any connectivity issue among the VLANs.
Can you successfully ping your SMTP server's IP from the other VLAN? please let me know.
The printer supports SMTP server for Scan to email only, have you used the SMTP server details?
Exchange can only be used for LDAP with your printer, not as an outgoing server.
