I started having issues with my ScanJet about 1 week ago. When I turn in on to scan, I receive a message that The HP Smart Document Scan Software could not find your scanner. I use this scanner all day long, so it is frustrating when it can't be found.
Everything is plugged in correctly. I have to unplug and re-plug it in a few times before the scanner decides it can be found.
I can't find any reason why it would stop working. please HELP
Thanks for your assistance.

Try this:
disconnect the scanner and on your computer, go to control panel>device manager. Click on "view" and select show hidden devices. Under imaging products if you see your scanner listed, right click on it and select "uninstall". If you see multiple instances, deleted them all. Then restart your computer and follow the original install process where you run the install and connect the scanner when prompted.

I contacted HP support yesterday and was told that this issue is with the Windows update to 24H2, which happened the end of December 2024. I was told that i have to wait for Windows to update or fix the issue. HP support said this update was affecting all standalone scanners, which is frustrating when you depend on that the be available to use on a daily basis.
I just hope there is a workaround, fix or update soon.

Thanks.
OMG....this worked for me. Everything is green to go AGAIN. Thanks so much for your help.
I just hope that this works later. However, this was a simple fix if I have to follow the steps again. I had just been trying everything for the last couple weeks trying to get it to work.

Just wanted to give an updated on this fix.
Today I still had to do the same steps for the computer to recognize the scanner again.
Even though all the items are green in the HP Smart Document Scan Software, I get an error message when I hit the scan button.
The workaround is to use the Windows Fax and Scan app on your computer. Of course there is not an option for .pdf. But at least the app allows me to use my scanner.

I just returned my one-week-old HP ScanJet Pro N4000snw1 after working with HP technicians for literally over 4 hours along with Verizon and Microsoft. Apparently, Windows 11 updated with 24H2 will not work with the scanners, so until Microsoft fixes the problem, HP scanners similar to mine simply will not work. Considering the update was implemented around October 2024, the problem is either a difficult fix or a very low priority with Microsoft. No one seems to know if the fix will be completed in days or many months.
