After updating my MacBook Air to macOS Sequoia, version 15.5, I can no longer detect the scanner on my HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw.
I have tried almost everything – including formatting, reinstalling, and updating. I even tested it on a brand new MacBook Air, but still no luck finding the scanner.
Is this a known issue, or is there a solution available?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello
“Issue” resolved.
I found out that the firmware in the printer was from 2013. I located a newer firmware version from 2020 on HP’s website and installed it via cable. This allowed me to scan again.
So, start by updating the firmware in the printer/scanner before trying everything else (like I did) 😀

Hi @And9000,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding issues with your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw scanner not being detected!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Check Compatibility: Ensure that your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw is compatible with macOS Sequoia 15.5. HP's official website or support page should provide information on compatibility.
Driver Update: Make sure you have the latest drivers and software for your HP device. Go to the HP support website, search for your printer model, and download the latest software and drivers compatible with macOS Sequoia 15.5.
HP Smart App: Use the HP Smart app to set up and manage your printer. This app can help establish the connection between your scanner and your Mac.
Reset Printer System: You can try resetting the printer system on your Mac:
- Go to "System Preferences" > "Printers & Scanners."
- Right-click (or control-click) in the left panel listing your devices and choose "Reset printing system."
- Re-add your printer and scanner.
Connection Check: Verify that your printer is properly connected to your network. If it's using a wireless connection, ensure that both your printer and Mac are on the same network.
Firewall Settings: Check your Mac's firewall settings to ensure they are not blocking the connection to the scanner.
I hope this helps.
