HP LaserJet Pro MFP M28a Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

MY printer is an HP Laser Jet Pro MFP M28a. Scanning has always worked with zero problems until now. However, as of today, regardless of whether I use the HP Smart app or simply HP Scan, I can no longer view an image of the scan. HP Smart always displays the mesasage "Scanning was canceled from the scanner," while HP Scan simply shows a blank screen where the scan preview should be. I am trying to scan directly from the glass. Printing and copying (from the glass) work fine. I have tried unplugging, restarting, deleting the printer from the computer, uninstalling and reinstalling the printer and drivers, and basically any other options I have read in these forums or elsewhere. I have also used HP Print and Scan Doctor and chatted to the virtual bot, all to no avail. What exactly could this problem be?

Hello,

I have the same problem with my printer LaserJet Pro MFP M28w. The scan function has stopped working while the printing is still OK. The copies button works well. Only the scan does not work.
Have you figured out this issue?
Thanks for your help.

Similar issue here, started 2 days ago with my HP Laser Jet Pro MFP M29w, but no message of any sort pops up for me. There is just no preview of the image scanned anymore.  Save button is greyed out, so only option is to "go back" and scan document again or "exit." Tried pretty much everything you did too, and several times--turning off/on printer, disconnecting/reconnecting printer, rebooting computer, uninstalling and reinstalling driver, HP Print and Scan Doctor, but no help and issue persists whether trying to save as pdf/jpeg, email as pdf/jpeg or selecting everyday scan option.  Hope someone here knows what the problem is and how to fix it. Thanks.

Hello,

All of us have the same scan issue, and for the printers in the same family (M28a, M28w, M29w).
Hope that someone from HP support team may help us.

Same problem with M29w. Blank preview with greyed out buttons. Started around 04/28/23. Other apps able to scan, but would prefer using the HP scan.

Hello,

Which app you used that was able to scan?

Thanks for your answer.

I was able to scan with MS Paint. I used it to see whether the problem was with the scanner or the program, and it looks like the scanner itself is fine. I think any other program should work (MS Fax and Scan, NAPS2, Adobe PDF...)

Same problem here, I tried practically all of the suggested actions from the support page (reinstalling different version of the software, resetting the printer by unplugging it, etc.) but did not work. HP Doctor software detects a problem with the HP TWAIN scanning, while the Windows WIA service still works, in fact it is still possible to scan a single page from MS Paint or the Windows Control Panel. Also in my case, the problem started between april 26 and 27. That cannot be a coincidence!

Hello,

FYI, I can scan with NASP or Microsoft Paint. So it seems that there is an issue with a recent update of driver or HP software.

Thank you.  I can use one of the alternative apps to scan
